A word about water...

As throughout the whole of Greece, water is a precious resource at Podaras and all over the island of Lesvos. We therefore request that you use it with great care.  Our tap water is perfectly suitable to drink but for those who would prefer, bottled water is widely available.

Guest Information

Linen and Laundry

  • Bed linen, bathroom towels, a pool towel and a beach towel are provided for each guest.  If you require any further items, please just ask as we are happy to help.  Guests will be notified on arrival of laundry days and are asked to leave items to be washed outside their apartments for collection.

  • Our accommodation is self-catering, with fitted kitchens in each room.  However, we are more than happy to discuss requirements for group bookings, should party leaders wish to offer their group members home-cooked, locally sourced food.  We are also able to negotiate with local restaurants, tavernas and the beach cantina on your behalf.

Shopping for Supplies

  • The fishing village of Tavari is a 15-minute walk or 5-minute drive west along the scenic coast road. Most provisions you will need are available at the local mini-supermarkets here.
  • In addition, a greater variety of fresh produce is sold from a van several times a week, usually in the morning.
  • The mini-supermarkets and fresh produce van in Tavari are branches of larger shops in Mesotopos, which is 4 km inland.  Absolutely everything is available here if you are prepared to look.  We recommend asking the locals who are friendly and eager to help.
  • Please do not worry if you are wishing to spend all your time at Aegean Blue and therefore do not wish to hire a car as lifts to and from Tavari and Mesotopos are always plentiful, especially in high season.

Local restaurants, tavernas and cantinas

  • The cantina on the beach at the foot of Aegean Blue is run by the wonderful Eleni and Nico and their children.  It is a no-nonsense, friendly shack serving paired back, delicious home-cooked food and warm company.  Expect to spend the whole day sitting in the shade playing cards or tavli (the local version of backgammon).
  • Tavari is a 5-minute drive from Aegean Blue and offers a host of relaxed bars and restaurants, all of which line the beach front.  Here you can find everything from traditional extensive Greek fare to toasties and souvlaki (the Greek version of the British kebab!)  A must is the icecream shop; their galaktoboureko (custard pie in a crusty filo shell) is to die for, especially when served with mastiche icecream!
  • Mesotopos, a 4km drive from Aegean Blue, is home to the local traditional kafenion.  It is a must see for those wishing to witness traditional Greek life unchecked.  Arrive early and watch the local men gather for their morning cafe elliniko (Greek coffee), cigarette, chat and game of tavli.

A word about local produce...

Easily our best find, the well established organic farm on the outskirts of Tavari provides all manner of fruit, vegetables and other responsibly produced and sourced produce, including freshly laid eggs. Take a trip down and say hi to the comedy goats!
